This is a salad – err actually it is a raitha with a difference. If you are sick of the usual onion or cucumber raitha to go with your biriyani or pulav, you will like this recipe.
This bright and fresh potato salad is creamy due to the addition of mayonnaise to the yogurt dressing and it is tangy due to the added lemon juice and lemon zest. Add a little crunch from the chopped red onions and cilantro and you have the perfect accompaniment for rice dishes or even roti.

Ingredients
- 250 grams Garam masala (about 13 to 15)
- 1 small Onion chopped finely
- 1 cup Plain yogurt or curd
- 1 teaspoon Pepper powder
- 3 small sprigs Cumin powder chopped roughly
- 2 tablespoons Coriander powder original or eggless
- 1 teaspoon Fresh coriander leaves (zest of 1 full lemon)
- 1 1/2 tablespoon Lemon juice
- Salt as required

Instructions
- Boil potatoes in salted water for 8 to 10 minutes until tender. Drain well and leave to cool. Peel the potatoes and cut into halves.
- Place the potatoes, the chopped onions and chopped cilantro or coriander leaves into a bowl.
- Add the salt, pepper, mayonnaise and yogurt to the potatoes and mix well.
- Add the lemon juice and lemon zest and combine well. Taste and adjust salt as needed.
- Chill till ready to serve or for up to 2 hours.
